Congratulations to our November Hair of Fame Hero, Arabella Kind! We caught up with Arabella to find out more about her work.
Tell us about yourself and your career
For as long as I can remember I have always had a natural fascination with hair. As a three year old, I would insist on putting little pink clips in my ‘very patient’ Dad’s hair, whilst I pretended to cut away gently with my imaginary scissor fingers, whispering ‘chop, chop, chop’!
I began working in the hairdressing industry in 2011 as a Saturday assistant at a highly regarded salon in Leicester city centre, and I was thrilled to be offered an apprenticeship with them on leaving school.
My dream was always to become a hairdresser and I was delighted to not only successfully complete my NVQ level 2 apprenticeship but also to go on and gain my advanced NVQ level 3 and qualify as a hairdressing assessor myself.
Four years on I continue to enjoy my profession more than ever, and I am proud and excited to be in the process of opening my own salon under the name of ‘Arabella’s hair boutique’.
I love the social aspect of my job and thoroughly enjoy meeting new clients. I get incredible satisfaction from helping a client feel better about themselves. By making a client feel that way I know that I have accomplished what I am most passionate about… hair!
When asked which part of my job role I enjoy the most I can honestly say I enjoy the whole hair transformation process, from start to finish.
When did you start applying hair extensions?
I started applying Great Lengths hair extensions in September 2014, and I couldn’t wait to get on the course. I used to flick through magazines and tended to be drawn towards the models with amazing bouncy hairstyles, and I always thought ‘I would so love to create that look in a totally natural way’.
Having researched in depth, I realised that Great Lengths would be a company that I could have total confidence in. I not only get a high quality product but have professional back up service too. The exceptionally natural-looking end results are exactly what I was hoping to achieve for my clients.
What do you love about Great Lengths?
What I love most about Great Lengths is the amazing quality of the hair as well as the keratin bonds. It is amazing how the bonds mimic your own hair, swelling with the hair when washed to avoid breakage. I love that I can trust Great Lengths hair extensions, and know that I am giving a premium quality service to my clients.
The fact that the client doesn’t necessarily have to have a full head of long extensions just emphasises the quality of the hair. I have quite a few clients who have short hair and they just have the sides thickened to give volume to their own fine hair.
I regard extensions as enhancement; they truly are the perfect way to enhance natural hair.
What are your hair trend predictions for 2016?
I predict that the hairstyle trends for 2016 will be effortless ‘textured waves’ and hair tied up in ‘loose knots’. Tousled looks are my absolute favourite styles.
